We Shall Be One

Crazy Horse was a Lakota Sioux Warrior who was known for standing up against the US government and fighting for the traditional ways of his people. For example, he led a significant part of the war party that defeated General George Custer in the Battle of the Little Bighorn (also known as Custer’s Last Stand). He was also a spiritual man and had several visions showing him the coming of the white man and the destruction of the Native American way of life. It is said that he sat with Sitting Bull shortly before he was assassinated. They smoked the Sacred Pipe (čhaŋnúŋpa) together for the last time, and it was here where Crazy Horse shared his prophecy. It is not only a message of hope for the Native Americans and their way of life, but also a signal for unity between conflicting nations.

“Upon suffering beyond suffering; the Red Nation shall rise again and it shall be a blessing for a sick world. A world filled with broken promises, selfishness and separations. A world longing for light again. I see a time of seven generations when all the colors of mankind will gather under the sacred Tree of Life and the whole Earth will become one circle again. In that day there will be those among the Lakota who will carry knowledge and understanding of unity among all living things, and the young white ones will come to those of my people and ask for this wisdom. I salute the light within your eyes where the whole universe dwells. For when you are at that center within you and I am that place within me, we shall be as one.”
